Why I haven't been posting

Joshua talks about what he's been doing, what's coming up, and hands out some reading material.

It's been a while since I've posted, but I don't what you to think it's because of my new job. I've been moving, and moving with two houses is quite a chore, especially between Atlanta and San Francisco. I've also been finishing up the book, working on a few open source projects, and preparing for a drive across the country. But enough about that.

The point is I'm in Santa Clara now and eager to get down to business. We've got a lot to do in the next month. Feature freeze on Mustang, preparing for Java One, my book release, and I've got to find an apartment. Cool stuff coming. To keep you all busy until next week here are a few interesting things I've been reading:

Creating Passionate Users. This is a weblog full of examples and discussions about how to (and how *not* to) create passionate users. How to get your users to care about you, and how to do things that your users care about. Great stuff.

We've all heard lots of talk about the new Intel-based Macs. I won't add anything but direct you to three very good discussions of the topic.

Advice for driving on a trip:

Bring as few munchies as possible: First, you shouldn't eat while sitting for long periods of time. You end up eating way too much and you don't feel well. Second, being hungry encourages you to actually stop and eat a real meal (and walk around a bit). most importantly you won't clutter your car with lots of junk. It's not the 1950s anymore. there are nice gas stations and grocery stores every 20 miles that will let you buy whatever you need along the way.

Get a car with multiple cigarette lighters, and bring a splitter and ac inverter. Being the gadget freaks we are, we need lots of power. Most cars can supply this power without any trouble, provided you have the right equipment. My car (a Saturn Vue) has two outlets, one in the front and one in the back, that serve to power my excessive gadget use. One for the cellphone, one for the ipod, and then a spliter so I could plug in the AC inverter for the iBook. Inverters convert the car's DC power to normal 110v AC that you can plug normal appliances into. They are a lot cheaper and smaller than they used to be, so I highly recommend you always keep one in the back of the car. You never know when you'll need it.

That's it for now. We've got tons of cool stuff coming up, so stay tuned!
